this is a completely unrelated (to anything involving me) post however i thought i’d share it
as most of you know, GTA 4 was brought out for consoles earlier this year, and it was a huge smash hit due to its pretty new engine, which boasted beautiful Graphics and a new dynamic physics engine. so whilst the console gamers got to drool at the graphics and how many different ways you can get run over, the PC gamers were left to twiddle their thumbs hoping for Rockstar to scream the release date of a PC version from the rooftops.
that day came on tuesday or wednesday (US/UK) so PC gamers rejoiced everywhere and were gleeful that the game didn’t seem to be a direct-port of a PS3/Xbox game, which is nniiccee.
However, the Cracker Scene and general faggoty I’m-not-paying-for-this-shit people were busy slaving away on finding out how to steal, crack and run this game.
The image of the game came out on monday (thats right! a full 2 days before UK release) and was immediately spread about on the P2P networks, then eventually sent up to the torrent and Usenet networks above P2P. But pirates were then again left to sit on their arses and wait whilst a crack for the new GTA was found.
it was later unearthed that the people at Rockstar had decided to use the new and hard to crack “Securom 7.xx” generation of protection. it was also later discovered that Rockstar had apparently spent “$200,000 on copy protection” to make the game “uncrackable”. this just devoted more of the crackers time to getting it cracked so they could laugh in Rockstars faces.
Finally 3 days later a crack was found that was able to run the game without much modification of game files. HOWEVER, when the gamer was enjoying the new prettyness of the game, Rockstar shat a bombshell and revealed that if the game had been detected as cracked, the game turned into an unplayable mess which consisted of constant camera shaking and accelerator problems during driving. This made the crackers angry and Rockstar laughed in their faces once again.
after that a huge number of cracks were spammed on the scene’s torrent and Usenet sites stating that it completely removed the issues but as ever, they were all fake. This was annoying as all of the Pirate Bay faggots screamed every time another one had been released, then screamed a little while later when it had been found it was another lovely fake crack
Until Friday, when a cracked was released that completely removed all the problems and made the game completely playable. at this point the person who designed the anti-piracy systems of GTA 4 was hung and the whole of the company cried as they’d lost $200,000 to stop the crackers cracking it for a grand total of about 5 days.
game works, pirates rejoice, Rockstar cries etc.
The End
